GiftQuest Legacy Report and Calling Preview: What’s the Difference?

GiftQuest Legacy Report and Calling Preview: What’s the Difference?

The GiftQuest Legacy Report is the default report on the new GiftQuest website because it preserves the original GiftQuest Local Church Ministries and Secular Vocation scoring from the DOS program. If you used the original GiftQuest spiritual gifts system, the Legacy Report is designed to feel familiar, dependable, and consistent with the results you’ve been using for years.

GiftQuest is built around the Romans 12:6–8 spiritual gifts. The new website does not remove that foundation. Instead, it makes the original report easier to access, easier to read, and easier to use in a modern browser.

For anyone who wants to take the spiritual gifts inventory and see the traditional results, the GiftQuest Legacy Report is still the version shown first.

The GiftQuest Legacy Report Still Works the Same

The GiftQuest Legacy Report is not being replaced. It remains the default report because it reflects the same core purpose as the original GiftQuest DOS program: helping people understand their God-given design through the seven Romans 12 spiritual gifts.

The Legacy Report continues to show the familiar percentage-based spiritual gift profile. It keeps the same basic report style and the same overall approach that churches, ministries, and individuals have used to better understand spiritual gifts.

The original GiftQuest program was created in an earlier era of DOS software, but the heart of the report remains valuable today. The new website simply brings that trusted report into a cleaner, more accessible format.

What Is the Calling Preview?

The newer version of the report is currently called Calling. This name is a working name, and we are open to refining it as the new report continues to improve.

The Calling Preview is where we are improving the way GiftQuest connects spiritual gifts to practical areas of service, work, and life. The spiritual gift foundation remains the same, but the algorithms are being expanded to make the results more useful.

In particular, the Calling Preview is being refined in two major areas: local church ministry recommendations and vocation guidance.

Improving Local Church Ministry Recommendations

The Calling Preview is being improved to better help people understand where they may fit within a local church. A person’s spiritual gifts may point toward teaching, encouragement, administration, mercy ministry, service, giving, leadership support, hospitality, outreach, discipleship, or other areas of ministry.

The goal is not just to tell someone their strongest gift. The goal is to help churches and individuals connect those gifts to meaningful service.

This makes the new Calling Preview especially useful for churches that want to help members move from spiritual gifts discovery into real ministry placement.

Improving Secular Vocation Recommendations

The Calling Preview is also being refined to improve secular vocation recommendations. Many people want to understand how their God-given design applies not only inside the church, but also in their work, leadership, career choices, and daily responsibilities.

For vocational language and career categories, resources such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook can help provide broader occupational context. GiftQuest uses its own spiritual gifts framework, but vocation recommendations should still be clear, practical, and understandable.

That is one of the reasons we are continuing to refine the Calling Preview.

How to View the Calling Preview

When you first view your results, the GiftQuest Legacy Report is shown by default.

To view the newer version, click the Switch to Calling Preview button near the top of the report screen. This lets you compare the traditional Legacy Report with the newer Calling Preview while the new version continues to be refined.

The Legacy Report is the stable default. The Calling Preview is the improved version we are actively developing.

Why GiftQuest Keeps Both Report Versions

GiftQuest keeps both versions because each one serves an important purpose.

The GiftQuest Legacy Report protects the original report experience and keeps the trusted DOS-style spiritual gifts profile available. The Calling Preview gives us room to improve the way GiftQuest helps people connect their gifts to ministry, vocation, service, and daily life.

Both reports are built around the same larger goal: helping people understand how God has uniquely gifted them and how those gifts may be used faithfully in the church, in work, and in life.
